The picturesque fishing port of Cros-de-Cagnes
Just 20 minutes by car from Carré d’Or, or reachable by bus or bike along the seafront, discover the picturesque fishing port of Cros-de-Cagnes, its fishermen’s return, its fish market hall, and its authentic Mediterranean village atmosphere.
Direct fish sales (the experience to recommend)
The fishermen set their nets in the evening, haul them in from 4-5am, and the catch arrives at the port around 8am: sold at the market hall and even directly as the boats come in, with the fishermen’s tips on how to cook it and good prices.
Location: the fish market hall at the sheltered harbour, rue du Capitaine de Frégate Vial (at the end of the street leading to the port, accessed via boulevard de la Plage), around a dozen stalls depending on season and weather.
Direct sales to individuals come with cooking tips from Corinne Costanzia, based on the day’s catch.
Cost: obviously free for the experience itself — guests pay fisherman’s prices for their fish. Suggest arriving between 8am and 10am; it’s a bit unpredictable depending on the weather (no outing = no stall), which is part of the charm.
